I’m a grad student in the medical field. I don’t study viruses but if they promised me my basic salary (just cover my costs to live) I’d not ask for a penny more.
What I want in return? A hug from my grandma without risk of her getting sick. To go to the gym because I like and miss the gym. Going outside and being with people again.
That’s the payment us scientists want - enough money to live comfortably, maybe a little recognition, and the knowledge that we helped someone today. We make the world a better place with facts and science.
